Petra Charities and Community Outreach
In an effort to give back to the community, Petra has been, and continues to be, involved with several charities and organizations that focus on changing lives for the better. We have even created a financial assistance program to aid financially burdened employees and their families in times of need. Petra also allows paid employee volunteer hours for employees to perform charity work during working hours without having to use vacation or sick leave. Every year, Petra plans and hosts its own charity golf tournament to support local charities. In addition, Petra has also had the pleasure of assisting the charities and organizations listed below.
Annual Charity Golf Tournament
Every year, months of planning and prep work culminate in this fun-filled two-day charity event. Thanks to the help of Petra’s hardworking employees and generous vendors, Hope-In-One has grown exponentially since the event’s 1998 inception. In 2018—the charity’s 20th anniversary—the event raised $120,000 in donations, but also marked the achievement of reaching $1 million in cumulative donations—tremendous growth from the $1500 raised in its inaugural year. The Hope-In-One Golf Tournament continues stronger than ever into 2019, and we could not be more excited to be hosting another amazing event with the assistance of our Petra family and supportive vendors.
About Mercy Multiplied
Mercy Multiplied is an international nonprofit Christian organization dedicated to helping young women, age 13–28, break free from life-controlling behaviors and situations including eating disorders, self-harm, drug and alcohol addictions, unplanned pregnancy, depression, sexual abuse and sex trafficking. Their goal is to help young women permanently stop destructive cycles, rediscover purpose for their lives and become thriving individuals. The support and impact that this organization is able to provide to these young women’s lives is both inspiring and uplifting.
About Whiz Kids
Whiz Kids is a faith-based, one-on-one volunteer tutoring/mentoring program that focuses on 1st through 6th grade students who live in areas with high drop-out rates and low socioeconomic levels in Oklahoma City. Whiz Kids is proactive and preventative, focusing on inner-city schools with students who are reading below their grade level, and who could benefit most from a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult. It is touching to hear about the difference a positive role-model can make in a child’s life and we are thankful for this organization that makes those role models a reality for the children who need them.
Big Heart Alliance
At Petra, we are committed to helping others and those closest to us. The Petra Big Heart Alliance is an employee financial assistance program made to aid those near and dear to us in their time of need. It is hard to see a person or family struggle to get by, and even harder when that person is a coworker and friend. Whether it is a costly car repair or a hospital bill, we are grateful to have so many kind-hearted, caring coworkers who are willing to sacrifice a portion of their paycheck to help their fellow Petra family members.
Employee Volunteer Program
Petra prides itself in being a community partner, and seeks to be involved in every way possible. For instance, Petra employees have the opportunity to use paid volunteer time to help charities in the community through Petra’s Volunteer Program. Over the course of 2018, Petra paid for nearly 250 employee volunteer hours—over double the amount paid in 2017. Below are a some of the beneficiaries of this program.
